「シルビアのいる街で」などで知られるスペインの名匠ホセ・ルイス・ゲリンの10年ぶりとなる長編監督作で、バルセロナ郊外の集落・バルボナ地区を舞台に、変わりゆく時代と人々の生活を見つめたドキュメンタリー。 スペインのバルセロナ郊外に位置するバルボナ地区。「よき谷」と名付けられたこの地は川や線路に囲まれ、開発から取り残された陸の孤島であり、大都市の近くとは思えないほど豊かな自然に恵まれている。ここには20世紀半ばに移り住んできた人々と、最近になってやってきた新世代の移民たちが共に暮らしている。インド、ジャマイカ、ロシア、ウクライナなど世界中から集まってきた彼らは文化も生活スタイルも異なるが、子どもたちは一緒に川で遊び、誰もがよく食べて飲んで歌い、踊り、ひとときの安らぎを得る。そんな都会のオアシスのような地に鉄道増設の計画が持ち上がり、一部の人々は立ち退きを迫られてしまう。 ゲリン監督が3年の歳月をかけてバルボナ地区にカメラを向け、愛情を込めながら住民たちの生活を記録。ひとつの小さな地区を舞台に、そこに生き続ける市井の人々と、流れ続ける人類の営みを詩情ゆたかに映し出す。2025年・第73回サン・セバスティアン国際映画祭で審査員特別賞を受賞。

A new feature film from director José Luis Guerín, who captivated the world with 'In the City of Sylvia' (2007) and was called 'the most outstanding filmmaker in contemporary Spain' by fellow Spanish director Víctor Erice. Despite his sparse output, Guerín continues to create masterpieces that lightly transcend the boundaries between fiction and documentary. This is his long-awaited new film, his first in ten years since 'The Academy of Muses' (2015), now arriving in Japan. To commemorate the release of 'The Good Valley Story,' the beautiful masterpiece 'In the City of Sylvia' will also be revived. Please enjoy Guerín's world on the big screen. The Vallbona district, located on the outskirts of Barcelona, Spain. This place, named 'The Good Valley,' is surrounded by rivers and railway tracks, an isolated land left behind by development, yet it also seems like an ideal paradise blessed with nature so rich it's hard to believe it's near a big city. Here, families who moved in from the mid-20th century live together with a new generation of immigrants who have arrived recently. Although their cultures and lifestyles differ, the children play together in the river, and everyone eats, drinks, sings, and dances well, finding a moment of peace.
