イランの巨匠ジャファル・パナヒが手がけ、2025年・第78回カンヌ国際映画祭でパルムドールを受賞したサスペンススリラー。不当に刑務所に投獄された人々が復讐を試みる姿を、スリリングかつユーモラスに描いた。 かつて不当な理由で投獄されたワヒドは、自分を拷問した看守と思われる男と偶然出会う。咄嗟に強引な手段で男を拘束し、荒野に穴を掘って男を埋めようとするワヒドだったが、男のIDカードを見ると、復讐すべき相手と名前が違っていた。男も人違いだと言う。実は投獄中、目隠しをされていたワヒドは、男の顔を見たことがなかった。男は本当に復讐の相手なのか。確信が持てなくなったワヒドは、ひとまず復讐を中断し、同じ男に拷問された友人を訪ねることにするが……。 反体制的な活動を理由にイラン政府から映画制作を禁じられながらも活動を続けるパナヒ監督が、自身が二度にわたって投獄された経験と、同房で出会った人々のリアルな声から着想を得て手がけた。「チャドルと生きる」「熊は、いない」でベネチア国際映画祭金獅子賞、「人生タクシー」でベルリン国際映画祭金熊賞を受賞しているパナヒ監督は、本作でカンヌ国際映画祭のパルムドールを受賞したことから、3大映画祭すべてで最高賞を受賞する快挙を成し遂げた。フランスとの共同製作作品で、第98回アカデミー賞の国際長編映画賞にフランス代表作品としてエントリーし、ノミネートを果たした。

A suspense thriller by Iranian master Jafar Panahi, winner of the Palme d'Or at the 78th Cannes Film Festival in 2025. It thrillingly and humorously depicts people wrongfully imprisoned seeking revenge. Vahid, once unjustly imprisoned, accidentally encounters a man he believes was his torturer guard. He forcibly restrains the man and digs a hole in the wilderness to bury him, but the man's ID card shows a different name. The man claims it's a case of mistaken identity. Blindfolded during imprisonment, Vahid never saw his torturer's face. Unsure if this is the right man, Vahid pauses revenge and visits a friend who was also tortured by the same guard. Panahi, banned from filmmaking by the Iranian government for opposition activities, drew inspiration from his own two imprisonments and the real voices of cellmates. Having won the Golden Lion at Venice for 'The Circle' and 'No Bears', and the Golden Bear at Berlin for 'Taxi', Panahi achieved the feat of winning top prizes at all three major festivals with this film. A French co-production, it was France's entry for Best International Feature Film at the 98th Academy Awards and received a nomination.
