Set in Shizuoka during the 1970s and 80s, this human drama portrays a single mother navigating a turbulent era, searching for her own way to live while walking forward with strength. In 1977, during a fierce storm that causes a blackout at the hospital, Fujiko gives birth to her daughter Mari. But her joy as a new mother is short-lived; she suffers unreasonable treatment from her husband's family, and her infant daughter Mari is taken away by her mother-in-law and sister-in-law. With the help of her own mother Chiyo, Fujiko manages to get Mari back and, defying opposition from those around her, decides to raise Mari as a single mother. Buffeted by the waves of the times, she refuses to be defeated by society, seeks freedom, and desperately fights to survive with the support of those around her. Yuki Katayama ('The Burning of the Crimson') stars as Fujiko. YOU plays the spiteful mother-in-law Toshiko, Lily Franky plays Sasaki, whom Fujiko meets through her insurance sales job, Tsuyoshi Ujiki plays Fujiko's ailing father, Keiko Takeshita plays Hatayama, the director of the daycare center Fujiko turns to, Issey Ogata plays Oishi, an old friend of Fujiko's father who runs a soba shop, Kayoko Kishimoto plays Fujiko's mother Chiyo, and MEGUMI plays Nagura, the owner of the coffee shop where Fujiko works. Directed and based on an original story by Taichi Kimura, who has directed numerous music videos and commercials and gained attention with his 2023 feature debut 'AFTERGLOWS'. MEGUMI handled planning and production.
