メキシコで暮らすトランスジェンダーの小学生がティーンへと成長していく8年間の日々を、自身もトランスジェンダーであるカニ・ラプエルタ監督が記録したドキュメンタリー。 メキシコシティの南に位置する町テポストラン。15歳のカルラが、秘密のコクーンでカニ・ラプエルタ監督と会話している。ふたりはこの映画をどのような作品にしたいか話し合い、カルラの人生を小学生の頃から時系列に振り返りはじめる。「男子」と「女子」のどちらの列にも並べなかった校庭、永遠にメイクの練習をしていたベッドルーム、コロナ禍で学校が再開した朝、名前を正式に変更した市役所、プライドマーチで叫んだスローガン、憧れたバトン部。パンクでヒッピーだった料理人のママとパパや、友だち、ラプエルタ監督、そしてクィアコミュニティと聖なる岩山に見守られながら、カルラはさまざまな自分に出会っていく。 カニ・ラプエルタ監督も自ら作中に登場し、交換日記のようにカルラと心のうちを少しずつシェアしながら制作。コミカルな演出を交えつつ、ジェンダーの固定観念が強い小さな町で成長する思春期の葛藤と揺らぎを映し出す。

A documentary by transgender director Kani Lapuerta, recording eight years in the life of a transgender elementary school student in Mexico as she grows into a teenager. In Tepoztlán, a town south of Mexico City, 15-year-old Carla talks with director Kani Lapuerta in a secret cocoon. They discuss what kind of film they want to make, and begin to look back on Carla's life chronologically from her elementary school days. The schoolyard where she couldn't line up with either the 'boys' or 'girls,' the bedroom where she endlessly practiced makeup, the morning school reopened during the pandemic, the city hall where she officially changed her name, the slogans she shouted at the Pride March, and the baton club she admired. Watched over by her punk and hippie chef parents, her friends, director Lapuerta, the queer community, and the sacred rocky mountain, Carla encounters various versions of herself. Director Kani Lapuerta also appears in the film, gradually sharing her inner thoughts with Carla like an exchange diary. With comedic touches, it portrays the struggles and fluctuations of adolescence growing up in a small town with strong gender stereotypes.
