過去にもテレビドラマや映画で映像化されてきた筒井康隆の名作小説を、初めてアニメ化。ひょんなことから過去へ飛べる「タイムリープ」の力を手にした女子高生・真琴が、過去を何度もやり直すうちに、人生のかけがえのない時間の尊さに気づく姿を描く青春SFドラマ。 高校2年生の紺野真琴は、学校の理科実験室に落ちていたクルミをうっかり割ってしまったことをきっかけに、時間を飛び越えて過去に戻る「タイムリープ」の力を手に入れる。その力を使って、男友達の間宮千昭や津田功介とカラオケを好きなだけ歌ったり、野球で好プレイを連発したりと、何気ない日常を思う存分満喫する真琴。何かあっても時を戻り、何度でもリセットできる。そんな楽しい毎日が続くはずだったが……。 監督は「デジモンアドベンチャー」や「ONE PIECE」の劇場版などを手がけ、本作以降「サマーウォーズ」「バケモノの子」「未来のミライ」などで日本を代表するアニメーション監督となる細田守。キャラクターデザインは「新世紀エヴァンゲリオン」の貞本義行、アニメーション制作はマッドハウス。主人公・真琴の声を仲里依紗が務め、真琴の叔母・芳山和子役で原沙知絵が声優初挑戦した。 2006年の公開時はわずか6館での上映ながら口コミで評判が広まり、8カ月を超えるロングランを記録。2021年には、細田監督の制作会社「スタジオ地図」設立10周年を記念するプロジェクトの一環として、体感型上映システム「4DX」で再上映された。

The first anime adaptation of Yasutaka Tsutsui's classic novel, previously adapted into TV dramas and films. A youth sci-fi drama depicting high school girl Makoto, who gains the power of "time leap" to travel to the past by chance, and realizes the preciousness of irreplaceable moments in life as she repeatedly redoes the past. Second-year high school student Makoto Konno gains the power to "time leap" back to the past after accidentally cracking a walnut found in the school science lab. Using this power, Makoto fully enjoys her carefree daily life, singing karaoke as much as she wants with her male friends Chiaki Mamiya and Kosuke Tsuda, and making spectacular plays in baseball. No matter what happens, she can go back in time and reset as many times as she wants. But this fun everyday life was supposed to continue... Directed by Mamoru Hosoda, who had worked on theatrical versions of "Digimon Adventure" and "ONE PIECE" and later became a leading Japanese animation director with films like "Summer Wars," "The Boy and the Beast," and "Mirai." Character design by Yoshiyuki Sadamoto ("Neon Genesis Evangelion"), animation production by Madhouse. Riisa Naka voices the protagonist Makoto, and Sachie Hara made her voice acting debut as Makoto's aunt, Kazuko Yoshiyama. Initially released in only 6 theaters in 2006, it gained popularity through word-of-mouth and achieved a long run exceeding 8 months. In 2021, it was re-released with the immersive 4DX system as part of a project commemorating the 10th anniversary of Hosoda's production company, Studio Chizu.
