The sixth feature film by Russian master Andrei Tarkovsky, shot in Italy. Depicting the journey of a Russian poet who visits Italy to trace the footsteps of a musician who committed suicide, the film captures his travels with overwhelming visual beauty and won the Best Director award, the FIPRESCI Prize, and the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury at the 36th Cannes Film Festival in 1983. Andrei, a Russian poet following the trail of 18th-century Russian musician Pavel Sosnovsky, arrives in the Tuscany region of Italy accompanied by his interpreter, Eugenia. Andrei is suffering from an illness, and his journey is drawing to a close. One morning, he encounters Domenico, an old man treated as a madman by those around him. Believing in the end of the world, Domenico entrusts Andrei with a single candle, asking him to carry it across a square without letting the flame go out. In January 2024, to commemorate the 40th anniversary of its original Japanese release, the 4K restored version, "Nostalghia 4K Restoration," was released.
