1929年にアメリカの漫画家エルジー・クリスラー・シーガーによって生み出された人気カートゥーンキャラクター「ポパイ」を題材にしたホラー。原作の著作権が2025年1月をもって消滅し、パブリックドメインとなったことで製作された作品で、正義の水兵ポパイが、おなじみのホウレンソウ缶と屈強な前腕を武器に、残虐無比な殺戮者として覚醒した姿を描く。 大学生のデクスターは、小さな港町で語り継がれる、夜ごと港をさまよい獲物を探し回る船乗りの都市伝説を題材に、ドキュメンタリー映画を制作している。ある夜、デクスターは長年片思いしているオリビアと友人たちを連れ、港近くの廃工場へ調査のため忍び込む。半ば遊び気分で調査を進めるうちに、どこからともなくパイプ煙草のような臭いが漂い始め、やがて闇の奥から伝説の船乗りが姿を現す。仲間たちが次々と惨殺されていく中、デクスターとオリビアは必死に逃げ惑いながら、工場に残された手がかりを追い、船乗りの正体に迫っていく。

A horror film based on the popular cartoon character 'Popeye,' created by American cartoonist Elzie Crisler Segar in 1929. Produced after the original copyright expired in January 2025, entering the public domain, it depicts the righteous sailor Popeye awakening as a brutal murderer, armed with his familiar can of spinach and powerful forearms. College student Dexter is making a documentary about a local legend in a small port town: a sailor who wanders the docks every night in search of prey. One night, Dexter brings along Olivia, whom he has long had a crush on, and their friends to sneak into an abandoned factory near the port for investigation. As they proceed in a somewhat playful mood, the smell of pipe tobacco begins to drift from somewhere, and soon the legendary sailor emerges from the darkness. As his companions are brutally killed one after another, Dexter and Olivia desperately flee, following clues left in the factory to uncover the sailor's true identity.
