西洋文学の原点とされる古代ギリシャの詩人ホメロスの叙事詩「オデュッセイア」を、「オッペンハイマー」「インターステラー」のクリストファー・ノーラン監督が映画化した超大作。ノーランが20年越しの念願として、長編映画として史上初となる全編IMAXフィルムカメラでの撮影を敢行し、トロイア戦争後の英雄オデュッセウスによる10年におよぶ帰還の旅を描く。 トロイア戦争を終えたイタケの王オデュッセウスは、妻と息子が待つ故郷への帰還を目指す。しかし神々の怒りを買った彼の前には、一つ目の巨人や魔女、荒れ狂う海の怪物といった幾多の試練が立ちはだかる。一方、王の不在が続く故郷では、王妃ペネロペに求婚者アンティノオスの影が忍び寄り、まだ見ぬ父を思う息子テレマコスも窮地に追い込まれていた。愛する家族のもとへ帰り着くため、オデュッセウスは過酷な運命に立ち向かっていく。 オデュッセウスと妻ペネロペを「インターステラー」にも出演したマット・デイモンとアン・ハサウェイがそれぞれ演じ、息子テレマコスをノーラン作品初参加のトム・ホランド、求婚者アンティノオスを「TENET テネット」のロバート・パティンソンが演じた。そのほか女神アテナ役のゼンデイヤをはじめ、ルピタ・ニョンゴ、シャーリーズ・セロンら豪華キャストが顔をそろえた。撮影は「オッペンハイマー」のホイテ・バン・ホイテマ、音楽はルドウィグ・ゴランソン。

Director Christopher Nolan of "Oppenheimer" and "Interstellar" brings to the screen a monumental adaptation of Homer's ancient Greek epic poem "The Odyssey," considered the origin of Western literature. Fulfilling a 20-year ambition, Nolan undertakes the first feature film ever shot entirely with IMAX film cameras, depicting the hero Odysseus's ten-year journey home after the Trojan War. Having ended the Trojan War, Odysseus, king of Ithaca, aims to return to his homeland where his wife and son await. However, having incurred the wrath of the gods, he faces countless trials, including a one-eyed giant, a witch, and raging sea monsters. Meanwhile, in his homeland, with the king long absent, the suitor Antinous closes in on Queen Penelope, and his son Telemachus, longing for his unseen father, is also driven into a corner. To return to his beloved family, Odysseus confronts his harsh fate. Matt Damon and Anne Hathaway, who both appeared in "Interstellar," play Odysseus and his wife Penelope. Tom Holland makes his first appearance in a Nolan film as their son Telemachus, and Robert Pattinson of "Tenet" plays the suitor Antinous. A stellar cast also includes Zendaya as the goddess Athena, Lupita Nyong'o, and Charlize Theron. Cinematography is by Hoyte van Hoytema of "Oppenheimer," with music by Ludwig Göransson.
