The Lychee Road
Chang’an, the capital of the Tang Dynasty. Li Shande, a low-ranking official, receives a life-altering command from the Emperor: “Deliver fresh lychees from the far southern region of Lingnan to Chang’an to celebrate the birthday of Consort Yang.” Lychees are notoriously perishable, making it nearly impossible to transport them thousands of kilometers from Lingnan to Chang’an without spoiling. Success means a path to promotion, but failure means certain death. Tricked into the impossible role of “Lychee Envoy” by a colleague’s scheme, Li Shande heads to Lingnan. There, he joins forces with an unlikely group of allies, including the daughter of a lychee orchard master, a merchant investing in the plan, and a young man oppressed as a slave. With the deadline looming, the fruit rotting, and the murky power struggles of the imperial court swirling around him, Li Shande faces overwhelming odds. Now, an unprecedented “Lychee Transport Mission” that will shake the course of history is about to begin!
