A key figure in this conflict is Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a charismatic leader whose hardline political stance is controversial. He is also the first sitting Israeli prime minister to be criminally indicted. In 2017, as the corruption investigation progressed, parts of police interrogation records of Netanyahu and his associates were secretly leaked to the film's production team. These records documented collusion with business and media circles, bribery, and provision of benefits. The film features testimonies from former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, a former head of the domestic intelligence agency Shin Bet, Netanyahu's former spokesperson, and prominent investigative journalists. It exposes how corruption led to national decay, and how Netanyahu colluded with far-right forces to maintain his long-term rule and avoid conviction, pushing democracy into crisis. Netanyahu himself sought to stop the film's release and threatened legal action; it was banned from screening in Israel. Alex Gibney, known for 'Taxi to the Dark Side' and 'Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room,' served as executive producer, and Alexis Bloom, director of 'Anita: Speaking Truth to Power,' directed the film.
