日本の大衆文化流入が規制されていた2000年代初頭の韓国を舞台に、内気な転校生と人気者の学級委員がJ-POPを通じて心を寄せ合う姿を丁寧につむいだ青春ドラマ。 2001年、韓国で最も保守的な街といわれる大邱（テグ）の高校に転校してきた少年ギョンファンは、当時まだタブーだった日本の音楽やアニメの大ファンで、昼休みには1人で日本の楽曲をMP3プレイヤーで聴いていた。周囲からは「オタク」とからかわれるギョンファンだったが、隣の席の学級委員ジェミンも実は日本カルチャーが好きだと知る。2人は学校帰りのバスの中でイヤホンを分け合いながらJ-POPを聴き、次第に距離を近づけていく。そんなある日、ギョンファンはジェミンにある秘密を告白するが、その日を境に彼の態度は一変してしまう。 本作が長編デビュー作となるオム・ハヌル監督が、日本カルチャーが好きだった10代の頃の自身の体験をもとに脚本を執筆し、1990年代の多彩な日本カルチャーを盛り込みながら描き出す。テレビドラマ「豚の王」などに出演する子役出身のシム・ヒョンソが転校生ギョンファン、テレビドラマ「保健教師アン・ウニョン」のヒョン・ウソクが学級委員ジェミンを演じ、「82年生まれ、キム・ジヨン」のコン・ミンジョン、「犯罪都市 PUNISHMENT」のイ・ドンフィが共演。

Set in early 2000s South Korea, when Japanese pop culture was restricted, this coming-of-age drama tenderly follows a shy transfer student and a popular class president who bond over J-Pop. In 2001, Gyung-hwan transfers to a high school in Daegu, Korea's most conservative city. A huge fan of then-taboo Japanese music and anime, he secretly listens to Japanese songs on his MP3 player during lunch. Teased as an 'otaku' by classmates, he discovers that his deskmate, class president Jae-min, also secretly loves Japanese culture. Sharing earphones on the bus after school while listening to J-Pop, they gradually grow closer. One day, Gyung-hwan confesses a secret to Jae-min, but afterward, Jae-min's attitude suddenly changes. Making his feature debut, director Eom Ha-nul wrote the script based on his own teenage experiences as a fan of Japanese culture, weaving in diverse Japanese pop culture from the 1990s. Shim Hyun-seo, a child actor known for 'The King of Pigs', plays transfer student Gyung-hwan, and Hyun Woo-seok, from 'The School Nurse Files', plays class president Jae-min. Gong Min-jung ('Kim Ji-young: Born 1982') and Lee Dong-hwi ('The Roundup: Punishment') co-star.
