A drama starring Timothée Chalamet, set in 1950s New York, inspired by the life of real-life table tennis player Marty Reisman. Marty Mauser, who dreams of becoming the world's number one table tennis player in America where the sport has low popularity, works at a relative's shoe store to raise funds to participate in the World Championships. After losing to Japanese player Endo at the World Championships held in London, Marty aims to compete in the next World Championships in Japan. With his mistress Rachel pregnant, his player eligibility revoked by the table tennis association, and his funds running out, Marty tries every possible way to raise money for the trip... Gwyneth Paltrow plays Kay, a retired famous actress; Grammy-winning artist Tyler Okonma, known as Tyler, The Creator, plays Marty's friend; Odessa A'zion plays Marty's girlfriend; Kevin O'Leary plays Milton, Kay's husband and president of an ink company; and Japanese Deaflympics table tennis representative Kōto Kawaguchi plays Japanese player Endo. Directed by Josh Safdie ("Uncut Gems," "Good Time"), the film was nominated for nine Academy Awards at the 98th ceremony, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor.
