「新感染　ファイナル・エクスプレス」のヨン・サンホ監督が2018年に発表した自身初のグラフィックノベルを映画化したサスペンスミステリー。 生まれつき目が見えないハンデを乗り越え、著名な篆刻家（てんこくか）となったイム・ヨンギュ。息子のドンファンは偉大な父を敬い、事業を陰ながら支えていた。そんなドンファンに、警察から40年前に消息不明になった母チョン・ヨンヒの遺体が地中深くから発見されたとの知らせが届く。ヨンヒは何者かに殺された可能性があるという。あるドキュメンタリー番組のプロデューサーの提案で、ドンファンは母の死の真相を探り始める。調査を進める中で、ドンファンはヨンヒが「醜い顔」をしていたという証言を次々と耳にし、ショックに打ちひしがれる。やがて、ドンファンは母の死をめぐるある事実に直面する。 「ただ悪より救いたまえ」「密輸 1970」のパク・ジョンミンが主人公ドンファン役を務めたほか、回想シーンに登場する若き日のヨンギュ役も演じた。父ヨンギュ役は「小川のほとりで」のクォン・ヘヒョ、ヨンヒ役はヨン監督のNetflix映画「啓示」のシン・ヒョンビンが担当した。

Yeong-gyu is a blind seal engraver who carves the most beautiful stamps in South Korea. To his son Dong-hwan, his father was 'a miracle itself.' But one day, the skeletal remains of his mother Yeong-hui, who disappeared 40 years ago, are discovered—and it holds the potential of being a 'murder.' To uncover the truth behind the death of the mother whose face he never knew, Dong-hwan traces the testimonies of those who knew her. Yet, all he hears are strange words: 'She had a face as ugly as a monster.' Why was his mother so disparaged? Is it the truth, or a distorted memory? What eventually emerges is not the 'face' of one woman, but the prejudice, malice, and collective madness lurking within humanity.
