Based on the 'Jeju April 3 Incident,' a massacre in which nearly 30,000 people are said to have been killed but which was covered up for a long time, this drama depicts the flight of a mother and daughter desperately trying to survive while being driven into a corner by unreasonable violence. On April 3, 1948, the 'Jeju April 3 Incident' began when some islanders on Jeju Island, opposed to interference by foreign forces, staged an armed uprising. From October of the same year, the government designated areas more than 5 kilometers from the coastline as 'hostile zones' and issued a proclamation stating, 'Anyone entering or leaving will be shot without condition.' To escape disaster, the villagers head for Hallasan Mountain, which rises in the center of Jeju Island. A-jin, a woman who has to leave the village temporarily, is extremely worried about her 6-year-old daughter Hye-sen, whom she left behind. Meanwhile, in the village, the South Korean army is mercilessly shooting the elderly. Surviving, Hye-sen heads into the mountains alone to find her mother. After miraculously reuniting, the mother and daughter embark on a life-or-death escape to survive. Directed and written by Ha Myeong-mi, who built her career as a screenwriter for commercial films, it vividly portrays the nameless people tossed about by state power. Kim Hyang-gi, known for 'Along with the Gods' and 'Innocent Witness,' stars as A-jin.
