「告発の行方」「羊たちの沈黙」のオスカー俳優ジョディ・フォスターがフランス映画初主演を務めたミステリー。 パリで精神分析医として成功を収めたアメリカ人医師リリアンは、長年の患者であるポーラが亡くなったとの知らせを受ける。ポーラの死に違和感を覚えたリリアンは殺人の可能性を疑うが、患者のプライベートな領域に関する守秘義務のため警察を頼ることができず、自ら真相を突き止めるべく動き出す。その一方で、リリアンはポーラの死を知って以来、状況に関係なく涙があふれる異変に悩まされるようになり、眼科医の元夫ガブリエルのもとを訪れる。涙の原因は判明しなかったものの、ポーラの事件の調査をガブリエルに手伝ってもらうことになったリリアンは、探偵まがいの捜査に乗り出し危険な真相へと踏み込んでいく。 主人公の精神分析医リリアンをフォスターが全編フランス語で演じ、「ベル・エポックでもう一度」などのダニエル・オートゥイユが捜査の相棒となる元夫ガブリエル役を務めた。「急に具合が悪くなる」のビルジニー・エフィラ、「007 慰めの報酬」のマチュー・アマルリックが共演。監督は「美しき棘」「プラネタリウム」のレベッカ・ズロトブスキ。

Oscar-winning actress Jodie Foster, known for 'The Accused' and 'The Silence of the Lambs', stars in her first French-language film in this mystery. Lilian, a successful American psychoanalyst practicing in Paris, receives news that Paula, a long-time patient, has died. Suspicious of Paula's death, Lilian suspects murder but cannot involve the police due to patient confidentiality. She decides to uncover the truth herself. Meanwhile, since learning of Paula's death, Lilian has been troubled by uncontrollable crying, regardless of the situation, and visits her ex-husband Gabriel, an ophthalmologist. Though the cause of her tears remains unclear, Gabriel agrees to help Lilian investigate Paula's case. As she embarks on a detective-like investigation, Lilian delves into dangerous truths. Foster plays the protagonist, psychoanalyst Lilian, entirely in French. Daniel Auteuil, known for 'La Belle Époque', plays her ex-husband and investigative partner Gabriel. Virginie Efira from 'Suddenly Sick' and Mathieu Amalric from 'Quantum of Solace' co-star. The film is directed by Rebecca Zlotowski, known for 'Grand Central' and 'Planetarium'.
