新疆ウイグル自治区の辺境の村を舞台に、植物と対話する少年の成長を詩的な映像美でつづったドラマ。 新疆北部の草原地帯にある小さな村。祖母と暮らすカザフ族の少年アルシンは、植物を観察し記録することに多くの時間を費やしており、周囲からは「植物学者（ボタニスト）」と呼ばれている。彼にとって植物は単なる自然ではなく、失踪した叔父に教わった世界観そのものだった。ある日、漢民族の少女メイユーが村にやって来る。明るく自由な彼女の存在はアルシンの静かな日常に変化をもたらすが、やがてメイユーは上海へ引っ越すことになり、アルシンは再び孤独と向き合うことになる。現実と幻想が交錯していくなか、アルシンは自分が何を探しているのかを少しずつ知りはじめる。 新疆ウイグル自治区出身のジン・イー監督が長編初メガホンをとり、自身の幼少期の記憶を出発点に、マジカルリアリズムを織り交ぜた独自の映像世界で描き出す。主人公アルシン役のイェスル・ジャセレをはじめ、キャストには演技経験のない素人俳優たちを起用。国際的に活躍するイランの作曲家ペイマン・ヤズダニアンが音楽を手がけた。2025年・第75回ベルリン国際映画祭ジェネレーションKplus部門にて国際審査員グランプリを受賞。

Set in a remote village in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, this drama chronicles the coming-of-age of a boy who converses with plants, told through a lens of poetic visual beauty. In a small village nestled in the grasslands of northern Xinjiang, Arsin, a Kazakh boy living with his grandmother, spends his days observing and documenting plant life, earning him the nickname "The Botanist." For him, plants are more than just nature; they represent a worldview passed down by his missing uncle. One day, a Han Chinese girl named Meiyu arrives in the village. Her bright, free-spirited presence brings change to Arsin’s quiet life, but when she eventually leaves for Shanghai, Arsin is forced to confront his solitude once again. As reality and fantasy begin to blur, Arsin gradually discovers what it is he has truly been searching for. Director Jin Yi, a native of Xinjiang, makes his feature debut with this film, drawing on his own childhood memories to create a unique cinematic world infused with magical realism. The cast features non-professional actors, including Yesul Jasere as Arsin, while the score was composed by the internationally acclaimed Iranian composer Peyman Yazdanian. The film was awarded the Grand Prix of the International Jury in the Generation Kplus competition at the 75th Berlin International Film Festival in 2025.
