Dead Man's Wire
Tony Kiritsis (Bill Skarsgård), a middle-aged single man living in Indianapolis, believing he was swindled out of his entire life savings by the mortgage company Meridian Mortgage, breaks into their office and takes the president's son and executive, Dick Hall (Dacre Montgomery), hostage. Using a device called a "dead man's wire"—a shotgun and wire rigged to his and the hostage's necks so that any sudden movement would trigger the gun—he demands an apology and compensation from the company. With the local police completely unable to act, Tony calls a popular radio show to expose Meridian Mortgage's wrongdoing, involving the show's DJ Fred Temple (Coleman Domingo) to broadcast his claims. The mortgage company's representative issues a statement on TV accepting Tony's demands, but Tony refuses, insisting that the president, M.L. Hall, must apologize in person first. As the situation shows no sign of improvement, the FBI arrives and begins profiling Tony, while police prepare for a raid. Suspicion of a bomb on the scene brings in a bomb squad, tightening the net around Tony. Meanwhile, Tony's next move is to call in the three major US networks and other media to the scene, holding a press conference with the dead man's wire still pointed at Dick. Tony's appeal through the media divides public opinion and throws America into chaos.
