「教皇選挙」のレイフ・ファインズ主演で、戦争により存続危機にある合唱団が前代未聞の試みによって新たな希望を見いだしていくさまを描いたヒューマンドラマ。 第1次世界大戦下のイギリス北部ヨークシャー。徴兵で多くの団員を失い、存続の危機にあった合唱団が、若者や町の人々を迎え入れ、再び歩み出そうとしていた。そんな合唱団の指揮者に、敵国ドイツで活動していた医師ヘンリー・ガスリーが選ばれる。偏見と不信を背負いながら、彼は退役軍人、売春婦、敬虔なボランティア、徴兵を控えた少年たちなどの寄せ集めの団員たちと向き合い、失われたつながりや希望を取り戻していく。やがて彼らは、前代未聞の挑戦に乗り出す。しかし再び徴兵通知が届き始め、ようやく芽生えた平穏は、戦争の影にのみ込まれていく。 合唱団の指揮者を務めることになる医師ヘンリー・ガスリーをレイフ・ファインズが演じ、厳格だが偏屈な男の複雑な内面を体現。ロジャー・アラム、マーク・アディらイギリスの実力派キャストが共演。監督は「英国万歳！」のニコラス・ハイトナー。

Starring Ralph Fiennes (*Conclave*), this moving human drama follows a choir on the brink of collapse during wartime as they find new hope through an unprecedented endeavor. Set in Northern Yorkshire during World War I, a choir decimated by conscription attempts to rebuild by welcoming local youth and townspeople. Dr. Henry Guthrie, a physician who had been practicing in enemy Germany, is appointed as their conductor. Burdened by prejudice and suspicion, he confronts a ragtag ensemble of veterans, prostitutes, devout volunteers, and boys awaiting the draft, working to restore lost connections and hope. Together, they embark on a daring, world-first challenge. However, as new conscription notices arrive, their hard-won peace is once again threatened by the shadows of war. Ralph Fiennes portrays Dr. Henry Guthrie, embodying the complex inner life of a strict yet eccentric man. He is joined by a talented British supporting cast including Roger Allam and Mark Addy.
