A black comedy directed by Kon Ichikawa and scripted by Natto Wada, weaving together a philandering man, his wife, and nine lovers. TV producer Matsukichi Kazama, despite having a beautiful wife named Futaba, is cheating with nine women. The wife and lovers are vaguely aware of each other's existence and fully know that Matsukichi is a womanizer, yet for some reason they cannot leave him. One day, the wife and a stage actress lover named Ichiko come up with a plan to kill Matsukichi. It is a fictional scheme meant to vent their frustration with him, but timid Matsukichi becomes convinced that his lovers are trying to kill him and consults his wife. The wife readily admits to the plan and then, to eliminate the lovers, suggests staging a fake murder: they gather the lovers for a meeting to denounce Matsukichi, and at that gathering, pretend to shoot him dead with a pistol.
