カナダが誇る過激映像集団〈アストロン6〉のメンバーであり、『バイオハザードV リトリビューション』（12）、『パシフィック・リム』（13） などのハリウッド大作に特殊効果として参加、単独監督作『サイコ・ゴアマン』（20）で一世を風靡した鬼才、スティーヴン・コスタンスキ監督。 その最新作となる2作品『フランキー・フリーコ』『デスストーカー』が、7月3日（金）よりシネマート新宿ほか全国順次公開されることが決定した。 両作品で監督・脚本を務めるコスタンスキは、『マンボーグ』（11）、『ザ・ヴォイド 変異世界』（16）、『サイコ・ゴアマン』（20）などを手掛けてきた カナダ出身の映画監督。『E.T.』（82）、『グレムリン』（84）、『グーニーズ』（85）といった作品群を彷彿とさせる唯一無二のクリーチャー表現と、 80年代の空気をまとったモンスター・パニック作品テイスト、そして不条理でブラックなユーモアを融合させた作風で知られ、 熱狂的なファンを生み続けている。本作でも、その魅力が存分に発揮された作品が日本上陸を果たす。 『デスストーカー』 は、ロジャー・コーマンが製作総指揮を務めたことでも知られる1984年製作のカルト的名作『勇者ストーカー』（原題：Deathstalker） を原作としたリブート作品。 剣と魔法の世界観を、コスタンスキ作品に通底する、コメディとダークネスが交錯する悪夢的ホラー＆ゴアセンスを存分に発揮させ再構築。 主人公デスストーカーを演じるのは、『マトリックス リローデッド』（03）、『ジョン・ウィック』（14）などで知られるダニエル・バーンハード。 製作と音楽には、ロックバンド「ガンズ・アンド・ローゼズ」のギタリスト・スラッシュが参加している。 【あらすじ】 ●デスストーカー 剣と魔法が支配する混沌の世界。アブラクシオン王国は、突如現れた真紅の騎士集団ドレッドナイトの襲撃に苦しみ、衰退の一途をたどっていた。 人々の間では、この戦乱が古代の魔術師ネクロメムノン復活の前兆ではないかという不穏な噂が広がっていく。 そんな中、戦場を渡り歩く傍若無人な戦士デスストーカーは、呪われたアミュレット（護符）を手にしたことで、ドレッドナイトの刺客に狙われることとなる。 自らにかけられた呪いを解き、迫り来る邪悪を退けるため、命がけの旅に出るデスストーカー。やがて彼は、世界の命運を左右する戦いへと導かれていく――。

From Steven Kostanski, the mad genius director of "Psycho Goreman" (2020) and member of Canada's notorious effects collective Astron-6, who has contributed special effects to Hollywood blockbusters like "Resident Evil: Retribution" (2012) and "Pacific Rim" (2013). His two latest films, "Frankie Freako" and "Deathstalker," will be released sequentially in Japan starting July 3rd at Cinemart Shinjuku and other theaters nationwide. Kostanski, who wrote and directed both films, is known for his unique creature designs reminiscent of classics like "E.T." (1982), "Gremlins" (1984), and "The Goonies" (1985), blending 80s-style monster panic with absurdist black humor, creating a devoted fanbase. These new films bring his signature style to Japan. "Deathstalker" is a reboot of the 1984 cult classic "Deathstalker" (executive produced by Roger Corman). It reconstructs the sword-and-sorcery world with Kostanski's signature nightmarish horror and gore, infused with comedy and darkness. Daniel Bernhardt ("The Matrix Reloaded," "John Wick") stars as the titular Deathstalker. Slash, guitarist of Guns N' Roses, contributes to production and music. Synopsis: In a chaotic world ruled by sword and sorcery, the kingdom of Abraxion suffers under attacks from the sudden appearance of the crimson knight order, the Dread Knights, and is in decline. Unsettling rumors spread that this war is a precursor to the resurrection of the ancient sorcerer Necromemnon. Amidst this, the insolent wandering warrior Deathstalker comes into possession of a cursed amulet, making him a target for the Dread Knight's assassins. To break the curse and repel the approaching evil, Deathstalker embarks on a perilous journey, eventually being drawn into a battle that will decide the fate of the world.
