ラース・フォン・トリアー監督の遠戚にあたり、デンマーク出身でデンマークとイギリスで映画を学んだヨアキム・トリアー監督が、2006年に発表した長編監督デビュー作。後に発表する「オスロ、8月31日」「わたしは、最悪。」とあわせて「オスロ三部作」と呼ばれる作品群の第1作。 フィリップとエリックは幼なじみで、子どもの頃からともに作家になることを夢見ていた。ある時、2人は同時に出版社へ原稿を送るが、フィリップの原稿だけが出版される。フィリップは一躍話題の作家となるが、やがて精神に変調をきたしていく。一方、エリックは諦めずに小説を書き続け……。 フィリップ役は、「オスロ三部作」すべてで主演を務めるアンデルシュ・ダニエルセン・リー。第79回アカデミー外国語映画賞のノルウェー代表作品に選出され、ノルウェーのアカデミー賞にあたるアマンダ賞でグランプリ（最優秀作品賞）、最優秀監督賞、最優秀脚本賞を受賞するなど、高い評価を受けた。日本では特集上映「ヨアキム・トリアー　オスロ三部作」（2026年2月13日～、東京・Bunkamuraル・シネマ渋谷宮下ほか）で劇場初公開。

The feature directorial debut of Joachim Trier, a Danish director distantly related to Lars von Trier who studied film in Denmark and England, released in 2006. This is the first work of the "Oslo Trilogy," which also includes his later films "Oslo, August 31st" and "The Worst Person in the World." Philip and Erik are childhood friends who have dreamed of becoming writers since they were kids. One day, they both send manuscripts to a publisher, but only Philip's is accepted. Philip becomes a suddenly famous author, but soon begins to suffer mental instability. Meanwhile, Erik continues writing novels without giving up... Anders Danielsen Lie, who stars in all three films of the "Oslo Trilogy," plays Philip. Selected as Norway's entry for the 79th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film, it received high praise, winning the Grand Prix (Best Film), Best Director, and Best Screenplay at the Amanda Awards, Norway's equivalent of the Academy Awards. It received its first theatrical release in Japan as part of the special screening series "Joachim Trier: The Oslo Trilogy" (starting February 13, 2026, at Bunkamura Le Cinéma Shibuya Miyashita and other venues in Tokyo).
