Actress Scarlett Johansson makes her feature directorial debut with this lighthearted drama about the friendship between a powerful elderly woman and a motherless student, sparked by a lie, set against the backdrop of her own Jewish cultural roots. Based on a script by first-time feature screenwriter Tory Kamen, drawing on her own grandmother's and family history, Johansson directs with humor and wit. Eleanor, an elderly woman living in New York, feels a void after losing her longtime friend Bessie. One day, intending to attend a tea party, she accidentally wanders into a support group for Holocaust survivors. There, she improvises a story about Bessie's life, recounting her Holocaust memories. Inspired by the dramatic story, journalism student Nina approaches Eleanor, and a new friendship blossoms. But Eleanor's lie takes on a life of its own, sparking a major uproar. June Squibb ("Thelma") plays the unconventional Eleanor, and Erin Kellyman ("Solo: A Star Wars Story") plays Nina. Rita Zohar, herself a Holocaust survivor, plays Eleanor's late friend Bessie.
