2022年まで北アイルランドでは公用語として認められていなかったアイルランド語でラップをし、過激なリリックとパフォーマンスで注目を集める北アイルランド出身のヒップホップトリオ「KNEECAP」の誕生を、アイルランド語法制化を求める抗議活動を背景にたどった半自伝的ドラマ。北アイルランド紛争の傷跡が残る西ベルファストの労働者階級の若者たちの姿を、ユーモアを交えながらスタイリッシュな演出で描き出す。 ベルファストで生まれ育ったドラッグディーラーのニーシャ（MCネーム：モウグリ・バップ）と、幼なじみのリーアム（MCネーム：モ・カラ）。麻薬取引で警察に捕まったリーアムは英語を話すことを頑なに拒み、反抗的な態度を貫く。そこに通訳として派遣された音楽教師・JJ（MCネーム：DJプロヴィ）は、リーアムの手帳につづられていたアイルランド語の歌詞を見て、その才能に目をつける。3人は抑圧されてきたアイデンティティと母国語の権利を取り戻すべく、アイルランド語のヒップホップを始めるが……。 KNEECAPのメンバー3人が演技初挑戦にして本人役を好演。共演にマイケル・ファスベンダー。2024年・第40回サンダンス映画祭NEXT部門の観客賞をはじめ、世界各地で数々の賞を受賞した。

A semi-autobiographical drama tracing the birth of KNEECAP, a hip-hop trio from Northern Ireland who rap in Irish—a language not officially recognized in the region until 2022—and draw attention with their radical lyrics and performances, set against the backdrop of protests demanding official status for the Irish language. With humor and stylish direction, it portrays working-class youth in West Belfast, still scarred by the Northern Ireland conflict. Nisha (MC name: Móglaí Bap), a drug dealer born and raised in Belfast, and his childhood friend Liam (MC name: Mo Chara) are caught in a drug deal. Liam refuses to speak English and remains defiant. Music teacher JJ (MC name: DJ Próvai), sent as an interpreter, sees Irish lyrics in Liam's notebook and recognizes his talent. The three start rapping in Irish to reclaim their suppressed identity and linguistic rights... The three KNEECAP members make their acting debut playing themselves, with Michael Fassbender co-starring. The film won numerous awards worldwide, including the Audience Award in the NEXT section at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival.
