カンフー映画全盛期だった1980年代の香港映画界に「香港ノワール」という新たなジャンルを確立し、後にハリウッドでも活躍する監督ジョン・ウーと俳優チョウ・ユンファの名を世に知らしめた傑作アクション。香港マフィアの幹部であるホーと相棒マークは、強い絆で結ばれていた。ホーの弟キットは兄の仕事を知らないまま警察官となり、ホーは弟のため足を洗うことを決意する。そんな矢先、取引のため台湾へ渡ったホーは相手組織の裏切りにあい、逮捕されてしまう。マークはたったひとりで敵組織に乗り込み復讐を果たすが、自らも足に大怪我を負う。3年後、刑期を終えて出所したホーは、キットから絶縁を言い渡される。堅気として生きることを固く胸に誓うホーだったが、いつしか戦いへと巻き込まれていく。ホーの弟キットをレスリー・チャンが演じ、彼の出世作となった。2022年4月に4Kリマスター版が公開。

A masterpiece action film that established the new genre of "Hong Kong noir" in the Hong Kong film industry of the 1980s, the heyday of kung fu cinema, and brought fame to director John Woo and actor Chow Yun-fat, who would later achieve success in Hollywood. Ho, a Hong Kong mafia executive, and his partner Mark are bound by a strong bond. Ho's younger brother Kit becomes a police officer without knowing about his brother's work, and Ho decides to go straight for his brother's sake. Just then, Ho travels to Taiwan for a deal, is betrayed by the opposing organization, and is arrested. Mark alone storms the enemy organization to exact revenge but suffers a severe leg injury. Three years later, Ho is released after serving his sentence and is disowned by Kit. Ho firmly vows to live a law-abiding life but is inevitably drawn back into conflict. Leslie Cheung plays Ho's brother Kit, in a role that became his breakthrough. A 4K remastered version was released in April 2022.
