Starring Cillian Murphy of "Oppenheimer," this film adapts the bestselling novel "Small Things Like These" by Irish author Claire Keegan. Set against the backdrop of the real-life human rights abuses at Ireland's Magdalene laundries, it depicts the inner conflict and decision of a man who discovers a truth society has long ignored. In 1985, in a small Irish town, coal merchant Bill Furlong lives modestly with his family. One day before Christmas, while delivering coal to a local convent, a girl confined there begs him, "Please get me out of here." Confronted with the reality of young women suffering with no way out, Bill understands it would be wise to look the other way, but his conscience torments him, leading him to make a fateful decision. Emily Watson of "Breaking the Waves" plays the convent's Mother Superior, Sister Mary, winning the Silver Bear for Best Supporting Performance at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival in 2024. Eileen Walsh of "The Magdalene Sisters" plays Bill's wife, Eileen. Murphy, who fell in love with the original novel, personally pushed for the film adaptation and served as a producer for the first time. Directed by Tim Mielants of "Peaky Blinders," the film also features Matt Damon as a producer and Ben Affleck as an executive producer.
