Flowers of Mold
An unconventional romance film starring Kim Jae-kyung, former leader of the South Korean girl group RAINBOW who now works as an actress. Based on the short story 'Flowers of Mold' by Ha Seong-nan, an award-winning author in Korean literary circles, the film depicts a woman who tries to understand others through 'trash,' the most private and defenseless traces of a person. Ji-su, who carries deep romantic trauma, secretly collects and files away other people's trash, believing that 'one's true self appears in what they throw away.' One day, she finds a trash bag that has been carefully sorted and discarded, and upon discovering it belongs to her neighbor, a man named U-je, she approaches him using fragmentary information gleaned from the trash. The two gradually open their hearts to each other, but one night, U-je witnesses Ji-su entering her apartment with a trash bag and discovers her secret. Kim Jae-kyung passionately portrays the protagonist Ji-su, who cannot trust others due to past relationship experiences, with Hyun-woo from the TV drama 'Law School' co-starring as the neighbor U-je. Directed by Sim Hye-jung, who gained attention for her previous work 'A Bedsore,' the film won the CGV Award and the Watcha's Pick Feature Film Award at the Jeonju International Film Festival 2023.
