ナチス占領下のチェコを舞台に、戦時下における密告社会の恐怖を描いたドラマ。 ブラウン医師は、ナチス占領下のチェコに暮らすユダヤ人であるため医療行為を禁じられている。そして高齢の彼は、すでにユダヤ人の運命を受け入れているようにみえた。そんなある時、近隣住民から負傷した政治犯の逃亡者を診てほしいと頼まれ、渋々ながら治療を施す。やがて自身の内面と向き合ったブラウン医師は、自らのアイデンティティを取り戻すため、レジスタンスたちへの非合法な治療を続けることを決意。そのために必要なモルヒネを求めてプラハの街をさまようが……。 ブラウン医師が出会うさまざまな人物や戦時下の街の様子を通して、戦争にむしばまれ崩壊しつつある社会を幻覚的な映像美で描き出す。日本では2026年4月、チェコ・ヌーベルバーグの名作を特集した「チェコ映画傑作選」にて劇場初公開。

Set in Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia, this drama portrays the terror of an informant society during wartime. Dr. Braun, a Jew living in Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia, is forbidden from practicing medicine. The elderly man seems to have already accepted the fate of the Jews. Then one day, a neighbor asks him to treat a wounded political fugitive, and he reluctantly provides care. Eventually confronting his inner self, Dr. Braun decides to continue illegal treatment for the resistance to reclaim his identity. He wanders the streets of Prague in search of the morphine needed for this, but... Through the various people Dr. Braun meets and the wartime cityscape, the film depicts a society decaying and collapsing under war with hallucinatory visual beauty. In Japan, it will have its theatrical premiere in April 2026 as part of "Czech Film Masterpieces," a series featuring classics of the Czech New Wave.
