ファッション業界における人種的多様性を切りひらいた先駆者、ベサン・ハーディソンの知られざる人生に光をあてたドキュメンタリー。 モデル、エージェント、アクティビストとして活躍し、華やかなファッション業界の舞台裏で「誰が美として選ばれ、誰が見えない存在にされてきたのか」という問いを長年にわたり投げかけてきたベサン・ハーディソン。現代のファッションシーンを語るうえで欠かせない存在でありながら、その功績はこれまで十分に語られてこなかった。本作には、ベサンを「第二の母」と慕うモデルのナオミ・キャンベルをはじめ、ゼンデイヤ、イマン、タイソン・ベックフォード、ウーピー・ゴールドバーグ、ラルフ・ローレン、ブルース・ウェーバーら、時代を形づくってきたモデルやクリエイターたちが登場。ベサン本人の言葉や、彼女を取り巻く人々の証言、豊富なアーカイブ映像を通して、ファッション史に埋もれてきたひとりの女性の功績と、母としての葛藤と孤独、そして再生を描くとともに、1970年代から現代へと続くニューヨークのファッション、アート、カルチャーの変遷を鮮やかに映し出す。 ベサン・ハーディソン本人と「ディオールと私」のフレデリック・チェンが共同監督を務めた。

A documentary shedding light on the unknown life of Bethann Hardison, a pioneer who opened the way for racial diversity in the fashion industry. As a model, agent, and activist, Bethann Hardison has long posed the question behind the glamorous fashion industry's scenes: "Who has been chosen as beauty, and who has been made invisible?" Though indispensable to any discussion of the contemporary fashion scene, her achievements have not been sufficiently told until now. The film features Naomi Campbell, who reveres Bethann as a "second mother," along with Zendaya, Iman, Tyson Beckford, Whoopi Goldberg, Ralph Lauren, Bruce Weber, and other models and creators who shaped their eras. Through Bethann's own words, testimony from those around her, and a wealth of archival footage, it depicts the achievements of a woman buried in fashion history, her struggles and loneliness as a mother, and her rebirth, while vividly capturing the transformations of New York fashion, art, and culture from the 1970s to the present. Bethann Hardison herself and Frederic Cheng of "Dior and I" served as co-directors.
