The Last Stop in Yuma County
The feature-length debut of up-and-coming director Francis Galluppi, this black comedy crime thriller depicts a series of unpredictable worst-case scenarios unfolding at a desert diner. In the 1970s, in the desert region of Yuma County, Arizona. A salesman visits a diner that serves as the last gas station. When the fuel truck doesn't arrive on time, the salesman passes the time chatting with a waitress. A vicious bank robber shows up, taking the salesman and waitress hostage. However, because there's no gasoline, the bank robber can't leave the diner either. Unaware of the situation, a steady stream of quirky customers arrives at the diner: an elderly couple, an Indian chief, a hapless sheriff, and a couple aspiring to be criminals. Jim Cummings of "The Thunder Road" plays the salesman, Jocelin Donahue of "The House of the Devil" plays the waitress, and Richard Brake of "Barbarian" plays the bank robber. The film won the Best Picture award in the ORBITA section at the 2023 Sitges International Film Festival, which selects the best thrillers, suspense, and action films, earning high praise.
