An autobiographical work written and directed by Shuji Terayama, adapting his own poetry collection of the same name. In a village at the foot of Mount Osore in Aomori Prefecture, a young boy, 'I', lives with his mother in an old house after losing his father. The boy's only solace is having an itako (a spirit medium) summon his father's spirit to talk to him. A beautiful woman who marries into the neighboring house and a circus troupe that comes to the village tempt the boy to run away from home. Later, 'I' grows up, moves to Tokyo, becomes middle-aged, and makes a film. Before this 'I' appears the boy he once was... Kantaro Suga, known for 'Thirteen Assassins' and others, plays the lead, and Kaoru Yachigusa plays the neighbor's wife.
