沢田研二が主演を務め、作家・水上勉の料理エッセイ「土を喰う日々　わが精進十二カ月」を原案に描いた人間ドラマ。「ナビィの恋」の中江裕司が監督・脚本を手がけ、原作の豊かな世界観に着想を得てオリジナルの物語を紡ぎ出す。 長野の人里離れた山荘で1人で暮らす作家のツトム。山で採れた実やキノコ、畑で育てた野菜などを料理して、四季の移り変わりを実感しながら執筆する日々を過ごしている。そんな彼のもとには時折、担当編集者である歳の離れた恋人・真知子が東京から訪ねてくる。2人にとって、旬の食材を料理して一緒に食べるのは格別な時間だ。悠々自適な暮らしを送るツトムだったが、13年前に他界した妻の遺骨を墓に納めることができずにいた。 ツトムの恋人・真知子役に松たか子。料理研究家の土井善晴が、劇中に登場する料理の数々を手がけた。

A human drama starring Kenji Sawada, based on the culinary essay "Days of Eating Earth: My Twelve Months of Shojin" by writer Tsutomu Minakami. Directed and written by Yuji Nakae of "Nabi no Koi" fame, the film crafts an original story inspired by the rich worldview of the source material. Tsutomu, a writer living alone in a remote mountain cabin in Nagano, spends his days cooking wild berries, mushrooms, and vegetables from his garden, feeling the changing seasons as he writes. His editor and much younger lover, Machiko, occasionally visits him from Tokyo. For the two, cooking and eating seasonal ingredients together is a special time. Though Tsutomu lives a carefree life, he has been unable to enshrine the ashes of his wife, who passed away 13 years ago. Takako Matsu plays Tsutomu's lover Machiko. Cooking researcher Yoshiharu Doi created the many dishes that appear in the film.
