1990年代のカナダを舞台に、韓国から移住してきた母と息子の絆を16ミリフィルムの美しい映像で紡いだドラマ。 恋人を亡くし未婚の母となったソヨンは、まだ赤ん坊の息子ドンヒョンを連れてカナダのバンクーバー郊外に移住する。工場で働きはじめたソヨンは、言葉や文化の壁、人種差別に直面しながらも、懸命に息子を育てていく。やがて16歳になったドンヒョンは英語名「デービッド」を名乗り、カナダでの生活にすっかりなじんでいたが、心の奥底では自身のルーツや一度も会ったことのない父の存在に思いを募らせていた。そんなある日、衝撃的な知らせを受けた母子は初めて韓国へ帰郷し、悲しみの過去と対峙することになる。 自身も8歳で韓国からカナダに移住した経験を持つアンソニー・シムが監督・脚本を手がけ、移民としてのアイデンティティの揺らぎや親子の葛藤と再生を、力強くも繊細に描き出す。韓国を拠点にダンサー・振付師・俳優として活動するチェ・スンユンが母ソヨン、ドラマ「アンブレラ・アカデミー」のイーサン・ファンが息子ドンヒョンの青年期を演じた。

Set in 1990s Canada, this drama weaves the bond between a Korean immigrant mother and her son through beautiful 16mm film imagery. Soyoung, who became an unwed mother after losing her lover, moves with her infant son Donghyun to a suburb of Vancouver, Canada. Starting work at a factory, Soyoung faces language and cultural barriers as well as racial discrimination, but raises her son with determination. When Donghyun turns 16, he goes by the English name "David" and has fully adapted to life in Canada, but deep down he yearns to know his roots and the father he has never met. Then one day, receiving shocking news, the mother and son return to Korea for the first time, confronting a painful past. Director and screenwriter Anthony Shim, who himself immigrated from Korea to Canada at age eight, powerfully yet delicately portrays the fluidity of immigrant identity and the conflict and renewal between parent and child. Choi Seung-yoon, active in Korea as a dancer, choreographer, and actor, plays mother Soyoung, and Ethan Hwang of the drama "The Umbrella Academy" plays the teenage Donghyun.
