昭和後期から平成初期にかけて歌舞伎界を支えた名優・十三代目片岡仁左衛門の84歳から90歳までを記録した、全6巻・計10時間46分におよぶ大作ドキュメンタリーの第1巻。 1987年、上方歌舞伎若手役者の勉強会「若鮎の会」が8回目の自主公演を実施するにあたり、十三代目片岡仁左衛門が監修と演技指導を行う姿にカメラを向ける。公演での出し物は「鬼一法眼三略巻」の「一条大蔵譚」と、「傾城反魂香」の「吃又」で、その稽古風景から本舞台の上演までを追う。稽古風景では、発音や所作の細部に至るまで指導する仁左衛門の様子をとらえ、稽古場の熱をそのままに伝える。 監督は「AKIKO あるダンサーの肖像」「早池峰の賦」などで知られるドキュメンタリー映画作家・羽田澄子。長尺であるため映画館での上映機会が限られており、ソフト化・オンライン配信もされていないことから視聴が困難となっていたが、2026年、十三代目片岡仁左衛門の三十三回忌と羽田澄子監督の生誕100年にあわせ、国内では17年ぶりに全6巻を劇場上映。
This is the first volume of an epic six-part documentary, totaling 10 hours and 46 minutes, that chronicles the life of the legendary actor Kataoka Nizaemon XIII from age 84 to 90. Nizaemon was a mainstay of the Kabuki world from the late Showa to early Heisei eras. In 1987, as the "Wakaayu-no-kai"—a study group for young Kamigata Kabuki actors—prepared for its eighth independent performance, the camera follows Nizaemon XIII as he provides supervision and acting instruction. The featured plays are "Ichijo Okura Monogatari" from *Kiichi Hogen Sanryaku no Maki* and "Domomata" from *Keisei Hangonko*, with the film tracking the process from the rehearsal room to the final stage performance. The rehearsal footage captures Nizaemon meticulously instructing on every detail, from pronunciation to physical movement, conveying the raw intensity of the practice space.
